Greene King Apprentice Chef Academy
Greene King’s Apprentice Chef Academy provides a hands-on learning experience for learners to hone their kitchen skills in a supportive and encouraging environment. It is delivered through Masterclasses, Vocational Classroom’s (VCs) & Micro-teaches throughout the learning journey.
Recognising the existing challenges within the sector, Greene King’s Apprentice Chef Academy aims to develop chefs at all ages in order to retain and progress learners through their career pathway.
Supported by professional chef and TV presenter Joe Hurd, learners will master the finer points of the Apprenticeship standard, through practical application of the knowledge gained by attending off site workshops.
The Production Chef Level 2 apprenticeship provides a chef the opportunity to grow and cultivate their skills within a challenging kitchen. Read our factsheet to find out more, or nominate yourself below.
As part of the Production Chef Level 2 Apprenticeship, masterclasses are conducted in rolling cohorts, allowing learners to join the next available cohort in London, Leeds, Manchester, Northampton, or Birmingham. Below are the eligibility criteria to apply for an apprenticeship programme. Dependant on the programme you apply for there may be some other requirements, such as the role you are in or your responsibilities.
- You have been a resident in the EU for the past 3 years
- You are not currently working on a student visa and have no employment restrictions
- You are not starting part or full-time education in the next 18 months
- You have not completed a similar programme

A Learning Coach will contact you and the apprentice to begin the programme
GENERAL MANAGER RESPONSIBILITIES
- Give the apprentice an opportunity to gain and practice the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to achieve the apprenticeship.
- Acknowledge that an apprenticeship requires at least 20% off the job training over the duration of the apprenticeship to be completed during working hours.
- Release the apprentice for up to 4 days to attend masterclasses and ensure they are paid accordingly as part of their working week.
- Contribute to progress reviews with the apprentice and Learning Coach.
- Ensure your apprentice attends each masterclass dressing in clean chef whites. Apprentices may also bring their own kitchen knives.
