FOR PARENTS

We appreciate that it can be difficult understanding the options for your child when it comes to education following their exams. An apprenticeship is an opportunity to jumpstart a career and gain valuable on-the-job training and experience. Not only will they earn whilst they learn, but they’ll also have the chance to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to advance to supervisory and management positions.

WHAT IS AN

APPRENTICESHIP?

  • Put simply, an apprenticeship is a paid job where you will learn new skills whilst working alongside experienced professionals. It’s not just a job, it’s a pathway to a successful and fulfilling career.
  • Employed from the first day.
  • Enjoy the same rewards and benefits as all other employees.
  • Undertake a work-based programme lasting 12-15 months matched to a variety of jobs.
  • There are apprenticeships for all aspects within the industry: chefs, waiters/waitresses, reception and housekeeping.
  • As apprentices progress into Team Leaders or Assistant Managers they can undertake Level 3 apprenticeships.
  • Alternative route to university avoiding expensive costs and loans.

IT WORK?

  • Delivered in the workplace: dedicated Learning Coach who will take your child through their apprenticeship.
  • Regular face-to-face and virtual visits: to prepare for assignments, undertake observations and ultimately provide a sounding board for questions and queries about the apprenticeship.
  • eLearning platform: which has lots of engaging content including YouTube style videos and supporting documents to guide your child through their apprenticeship.
  • Working hours and wage: apprentices work an average of 30-35 hours per week, just like a typical employee. To be enrolled on an apprenticeship they must work more than 16 hours, this is likely to include working evenings/weekends. Apprentices pay starts at the National Minimum Wage (not the Apprenticeship Minimum Wage) for their age, in line with the normal pay rates.
  • Progression opportunities: apprenticeship programmes support an apprentice right the way up to multi-site management and even head office roles and beyond, if that is the career pathway for them and they have the passion to succeed.
  • Previous qualifications are not a necessity: the biggest thing that we’re looking for is commitment and a can-do attitude! The apprenticeship will help build confidence so you could be in a management role within just a couple of year.

FAQS

If my child is between 16-17 and not attending school, do they need to be on an apprenticeship?

The current legislation in England is that a young person must stay in some form of education or training, such as an apprenticeship, until their 18th birthday. We currently employ 16-17 olds and are aware of the challenges that many of our apprentices face when they transition from leaving school or college, to starting their first job. All of our Managers follow strict guidelines to ensure the safety of your child including carrying out a risk assessment for each person under the age of 18 years.

What will my child gain from starting an apprenticeship in hospitality?

In hospitality, there is plenty of opportunity to progress throughout the industry. We offer a clear career path with continuous development opportunities and apprenticeships to support employees throughout their career journey. Starting as an apprentice will enhance future prospects and personal and professional development. Plus, they’ll reap the benefits of working for one of the leading hospitality companies in the UK
